A very warm welcome to Year 1.
Please see below our termly planner for details of our topics and curriculum content for each term. In the autumn term we study ‘All about me’, a transitional topic and then we move onto ‘Dinosaurs’. This is followed by ‘Once upon a time’ and ‘All about Me’ which covers all elements of ourselves: who we are, our lives, our senses, our bodies and feelings.
In the spring term we will cover ‘Castles’ and ‘Victorians’. We look at different parts of a castle, where you find castles and who you might find in a castle. We go on a trip to Windsor Castle which we are sure the children will thoroughly enjoy! During the Victorians project, we look at Queen Victoria and the children of Victorian times – comparing their lives with children of today. We will have a Victorian school day when the children dress up as Victorian children.
In the summer term we study ‘Growing’ and conclude with a project on ‘The Seaside’. The children will grow various seeds and plants. They will measure their plant’s growth and learn about what plants need to grow. Through ‘The Seaside’ topic, the children will learn about different animals and traditions linked to a trip to the seaside. We will end the topic with a seaside day at school.
