‘Where the Wild Things Are’ -Story and Pictures by Maurice Sendak![]()
This is a book I never came across as a child but got to read with my son. It became a favourite of ours. We both loved how the book takes you on a journey through the main character’s imagination and back to reality again. It is also a story about love and forgiveness. ![]()

My son and I once attended a ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ workshop where we made ‘Wild Things’ masks and got to wear them while someone narrated the story and we acted it out. It was a magical day. Even though I felt shy performing, it wasn’t too bad as I felt ‘safe’ behind my mask and it ended up being a lot of fun. Now my son is grown up but I still have the book, I still think it’s a great story and I associate it with a memorable day.

I read 'Finn Jones was here' as it was nominated for the Hounslow Junior Book Awards, yet it has stuck with me even after all this time. It is very relatable, honest, moving and funny all at the same time. A really good book for children in Years 5 and 6.

Not Now, Bernard is a real classic for me. Some of my fondest memories are reading this with my son—he loved it so much that we read it again and again! A funny, engaging story that’s sure to delight children (and grown-ups too). 💛

One of my favourite childhood books was The Worst Witch by Jill Murphy. I was always drawn to the idea of living away from home at a boarding school, getting up to mischief and learning magic along the way. Mildred Hubble, the lead character, is so lovable in her clumsy, well-meaning way, which made it impossible not to root for her.
