The school has a supportive Governing Body which assists in the governance of the school. Governors bring a range of interests, knowledge and skills and have responsibility for overseeing the organisation, curriculum and budget of the school.

Message from the Chair of Governors

The governors are representatives of parents, carers, school staff and the local community and they support the school vision and aims. The Governing Body meets once a term and more frequently in smaller sub-committees and groups. We have the responsibility for supporting the Head teacher in the development of the strategic vision, the curriculum and the budget of the school. The day-to-day running of the school is entrusted to the Head teacher and staff. We feel privileged to be able to play an active role in the life of such a happy, friendly school where all children are encouraged to reach their full potential.

Governors have an attached class/year group and aim to visit the class at least once each term. Visits help to ensure that governors are able to meet the children and experience the school during the working day. This provides an invaluable opportunity to see learning in action and gain a better understanding of how the school functions on a day-to-day basis in order to support their role as Governor.


“I joined the Spring Grove Primary School governing body as a community governor in 2012 and have been serving as Chair of Governors since November 2014.
It’s a privilege to be a governor of SG where both my children received their primary school education and where my wife is a staff member. I am a fully qualified accountant with extensive experience of working in large financial services organisations in various roles including controllership, financial planning & management and projects.
As governors our primary responsibility is to provide support as well as appropriate challenge to the head teacher in all aspects of running the school. Our aim is for every child attending spring grove to develop a positive attitude to school life and have the opportunity to achieve to their full potential.
In my free time, I have enjoyed many years of playing cricket for my school, local clubs, work teams and continue to follow sport at all levels. I also love watching football and going for long walks.”

” I put myself forward for the role of parent governor having two young children in the school. This gives me a long-term interest in the effective running of the school. In fact my interest in the Spring Grove goes back to when I was a student here. I have always been driven to give back to the school – as a teenager I returned to the school to help with classes many times. I want to continue to give back to the school and the community it serves now that I have so much more to offer. I helped open and run a small private school before going on to train as a secondary school teacher. I currently teach Maths at a local state school. This background gives me a clear understanding of all aspects of running a school in terms of standards, accountability, safeguarding, finances, regulations, teaching and learning.”

“Having been appointed a parent governor in 2015, I am keen to ensure that Spring Grove Primary School continues to excel irrespective of the challenges that lay ahead. I am well acquainted with change through my work as a NHS health care professional and I hope to bring knowledge and experience to test existing strategies and influence future policies. Above all, I will endeavour to fully represent the interests of pupils and parents. It is a great pleasure and honour to be given the opportunity to serve as a school parent governor. When I am not engaged with my daytime or parent governor work, I like reading, gardening and playing team sports.”

“I feel privileged to be a Community Governor at Spring Grove Primary. I have a long affiliation with the school as a parent, a member of staff and a governor. All my children received their primary education here, SGP gave them a great start. I enjoy being part of the fast moving, caring and hardworking School of today. I am responsible of Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) and support the SEND Coordinator in her role. I am proud of being able to contribute and make a difference to the lives of children, staff and local community.”

“I am the Site Manager of Spring Grove Primary School and have been with the school for nearly 14 years. I also serve as a staff governor in the school’s Governing Body.
I have responsibility for the safety, cleanliness and upkeep of the school site. Before joining the Spring Grove team, I worked for a company installing electrical equipment into buildings such as The Houses of Parliament, 10 Downing Street and Portcullis House along with other government buildings.
I have 2 children at Spring Grove, a son in Year 6 and a daughter in Year 3. I was honoured to be asked by the headteacher to become staff governor. “

“I have been a Local Authority Governor at Spring Grove Primary School since September 2014. I am also a member of the Teaching and Learning Group. I am enjoying this role as although I have worked in education since graduating it is the first time that I have been a school governor. I aim to always support and ask appropriate questions of the headteacher and her staff in the work being carried out to further develop this outstanding school.

I qualified as a teacher in 1989 and have taught in primary schools in Islington, Ealing and Hounslow. I was headteacher of a local Hounslow school from 2003 to 2009 and since then have worked for the Education Improvement Partnership in Hounslow.

I feel privileged to be a governor of Spring Grove and I draw upon my experience in education to be a good critical friend to the headteacher and school staff. The termly Governing Body meeting is a powerful vehicle for understanding more about the aims of the school and the work that is being carried out in order to achieve them. At the end of each meeting we try to identify ways in which as Governors we have supported and challenged the school as critical friends. I enjoy this aspect of the role as I believe that governors should offer something of value to the work of the head teacher and staff in moving the school forward.

When I am not being a governor or working for the EIP, I enjoy spending time with my family and dog, and enjoying all that London has to offer!”
