Poetry Performance Competition

‘Off by Heart’ Poetry Competition 2019

We are proud to announce the launch of our 2nd Annual Spring Grove Primary School ‘Off by Heart’ Poetry Competition! For this competition we are asking all the children to learn one poem from the list below 'Off by Heart'. The children will be reciting their poems in class and the two winning entries from each class will go through to the Grand Final in the Hall in front of the school, on Wednesday 6th November 2019. This was a terrific event last year and the children performed brilliantly. We are sure it will be just as good this year. The competition will be judged by independent judges who will make the tough decisions for us!

All the poems for this year are listed over the page and can be accessed on the website. The best way of learning a poem is not to try and do it all at once. Little and often, line by line, is often the best approach. We would like all children to have a go at learning one of the poems. Staff and parents are also encouraged to have a go as this will also give the children encouragement!

The lists of poems are below. Some are funny. Some are sad. Some are nonsense. Some might make you think. They are all fantastic poems however and we hope you find one that you would like to learn.

There are 14 poems for each Key Stage to choose from. You may want to perform on your own, in a pair or a group.

Class performances will be judged by 1st November.
The whole school grand final will be on Wednesday 6th November at 2.30pm

Get learning and good luck.....!
