EYFS

Children in Nursery and Reception classes (age 3 – 5 years) develop their learning and skills through a variety of activities, based largely around structured and free play situations, as well as gaining an understanding of the world around them.

Indoor and outdoor provision is carefully planned using the Early Years Foundation Stage framework and encourages pupils to extend their intellectual, creative, physical, social and emotional development through first-hand experience in a wide range of situations. It is through play that children are able to explore and make sense of their world. We encourage all our pupils to become confident and independent learners, who ask lots of questions and learn how to find out the answers, whilst having a challenging, fun and enjoyable time.

Children follow a programme of work planned from the Early Years Foundation Stage. This comprises of seven areas of learning which are:

  • Communication and language
  • Physical development
  • Personal, social and emotional development
  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the world
  • Expressive arts and design
